Flexible Mica Use in the OMZ Line
The corona plate takes the most abuse inside the ozone
generator. The choice of dielectric material is critical. Ozone
Solutions use flexible muscovite mica in its corona plates. Muscovite mica
offers mild flexibility with excellent dielectric properties.
Flexibility is important since all corona plates must be
cleaned over time since dust & dirt collect on its surface. The mica is
exhibits excellent handling properties and rarely shows signs of stress
cracking.
The mica also has a very high dielectric constant allowing
thin sheets to be used. This results in a lower voltage transformer
being needed to "punch" the corona through a mica plate. The
action of the corona "punching"
its way through the mica plate is responsible for creating ozone. Lower
voltage means an inherently safer product.
